For founders Anne Spratling and John Ayris, their passion for handcrafting unique gifts began with an inspiring trip through Asia many years ago. Today, East of India offers a distinctive collection of gifts, wedding presents, ceramic ornaments, stationery, and more—all designed with love and care. It was on that trip when Ann and John met a talented man who had hand-carved a beautiful wooden pig from a tree he had grown himself. They bought many items from him that day to give as gifts back home, and when they saw how family and friends reacted, they knew they had to introduce more of these beautiful handmade goods to the UK. Today, all East of India products are designed and made with extraordinary craftsmanship at their studio in Folkestone, England. And that talented man who created the wooden pig? He’s part of the East of India team (along with his family, friends), working in harmony to create more gifts that bring big smiles and unforgettable memories.
